Jack Boyle had 3 base hits and 2 RBI and Jack Taylor went the distance as the
spectacular Philadelphia Phillies beat the Cleveland Spiders by a score of 6
to 1.

Philadelphia jumped out to the early lead in the first inning scoring 3 runs
utilizing 4 base hits. Bill Hallman started the inning off right when he
laced a base-knock. Hallman was safe on a stolen base. Tuck Turner then
delivered a base-hit plating a run. Ed Delahanty followed and he stroked a
single. Boyle came up to bat and doubled driving in one more runner. One
out later, Sam Thompson came to the plate and hit a sacrifice fly scoring the
final run of the inning. That early run support was enough for Taylor(8-4)
and Philadelphia. Philadelphia totaled 13 hits on the afternoon.

The loss was charged to Cy Young(25-9). He got hit hard, allowing 13 hits and
2 walks in 8 innings.
