WEB GEMS- Top 8th: Win Mercer robbed Jack McCarthy of a base hit.

Bill Hart went the distance at Boundary Field where the Pittsburg Pirates beat
the slumping Washington Senators 9 to 3.

Washington fell behind quickly as the Pittsburg offense came through in the
first inning scoring a single run on 2 base hits. Patsy Donovan lined a
base-hit. Donovan got a great jump and stole second easily. Tom O'Brien
then reached on an error. Jack McCarthy stepped in and he smacked a one-base
hit scoring the run. Pittsburg rapped out 13 hits for the afternoon.

Hart(4-2) allowed 3 runs on the game. Bill Dinneen(3-12) took the loss. He
was unable to control the Pittsburg offense and allowed 13 hits and 4 walks
in 9 innings.

Pittsburg continued their winning ways, with their streak now at 6 games and
counting. Deacon McGuire was very irritated after the contest. 'Just our
luck to run into a team that's playing like a juggernaut right now. I have
to congratulate Bill Watkins on his team's recent performance. A very
impressive run.'
