Harry Lord had 2 base hits and Smoky Joe Wood completed the game without help
from the bullpen at Sportsman'S Park as the Boston Red Sox beat the St. Louis
Browns by the count of 6 to 5.
Boston came through with the game-winning runs in the top of the 8th inning
scoring 2 runs using 2 hits. Bill Carrigan kicked off the action when he
doubled. Pat Donahue stepped into the batter's box and he reached on an
error. Wood then reached on an error knocking in a run. Harry Niles got his
chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes. Lord stepped into
the box and smacked a single to load the bases. Tris Speaker added to the
uprising and hit a sacrifice fly scoring the final run of the inning. Both
teams ended up with 11 hits on the afternoon.
Wood(11-2) finished the game allowing 5 runs in the victory. Bill
Grahame(12-8) was the loser. He was knocked around by Boston, allowing 11
hits and 3 walks in 8 and 2/3 innings.
'It wasn't my best outing, but I'll take the win' Wood said.
