Frank Smith threw a 3 hit shutout as the Chicago White Sox defeated the
dreadful New York Highlanders by a score of 5 to 0 at South Side
Park.

Smith(17-12) escaped virtually unscathed against the New York hitters.  He was
stingy on the mound, allowing just 3 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings.  Chicago
finished with just 6 hits in the victory.  

Jack Chesbro(1-6) suffered the loss.  He allowed 6 hits and 6 walks in 7 and
2/3 innings.  'We didn't have a whole lot of chances today,' George Stallings
said.  'Smith just was too much for our guys.'
