Jeff Tesreau went the distance and Buck Herzog had 3 base hits and 2 RBI as
the New York Giants bested the Pittsburgh Pirates 5 to 1 at Forbes
Field.

New York took the lead for good in the 6th inning when they scored 2 runs on 2
hits.  The key offensive moment was provided by Herzog who deflated the
spirits of the home town crowd when he lined a base-hit which was good for
two runs.  New York managed 11 hits in their victory.  

The victory went to Tesreau(11-4) who went the distance allowing 1 run. Marty
O'Toole(10-15) was hit with the loss.  He was knocked around by New York,
allowing 10 hits and 4 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings.  

Wth the win New York now has a record of 78-35.  With an impressive recent
record of 8-2, Pittsburgh hopes this will only be an isolated loss - followed
by another nice run.
