The New York Giants got by the Chicago Cubs at Polo Grounds. The final score
was 5 to 3.
Chicago fell behind quickly as the New York offense came through in the first
inning with 2 runs utilizing 3 base hits. George Burns led off and started
the attack as he laced a base-knock. Tillie Shafer stepped into the batter's
box and he lined a one-base hit, and an error was also committed. Art
Fletcher then lashed a single scoring two teammates. Chicago could do no
damage in the 9th.
Rube Marquard(12-13) was the winner allowing 3 runs in 7 and 2/3 innings.
Hooks Wiltse recorded his 6th save. Charlie Smith(3-9) absorbed the loss.
He allowed 7 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings.
