Larry Doyle had 4 hits and 3 RBI as the New York Giants defeated the St. Louis
Cardinals 6 to 5 at Polo Grounds.

New York erupted with the game winning runs in the bottom of the 8th inning
scoring 3 runs using 3 hits.  George Burns led off the inning for New York
when he drew a walk.  Dave Robertson was next and he hit a single.  Doyle
then doubled which scored a run.  Art Fletcher followed and he hit a deep fly
plating one more runner.  One out later, Fred Brainard stepped up to the
plate and he was walked intentionally.  Eddie Grant added to the rally and
slapped a single, and an error was also committed, scoring the final run of
the inning.  St. Louis tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.  

The winning pitcher was Christy Mathewson(10-9) who allowed 4 runs in 8
innings. Ferdie Schupp earned the save, his 5th.  Charlie Boardman(1-1) was
charged with the loss in relief.
