In a tight game it was the very strong Cincinnati Reds 3, the hopeless
Pittsburgh Pirates 1 in 11 innings at Forbes Field.

Both teams were tied at 1 runs apiece after nine innings.  Cincinnati won the
game in the 11th inning.  After an out was recorded, Spider Jorgensen
jump-started the rally as he drew a walk.  After another out, Enos Slaughter
came to bat and lifted one out of the park for a two run home run.
Cincinnati took care of Pittsburgh with no trouble in the bottom of the 11th.

Satchel Paige(4-3) got credit for the victory, pitching 3 innings and allowing
no runs. Preacher Roe was credited with his 26th save.  Ewell Blackwell(7-8)
was the loser in relief.  He allowed 3 hits and 2 walks in 3 innings.
