WEB GEMS- Top 7th: Cleveland turns a triple play!

18,062 fans were treated to a fine game at Cleveland Stadium as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The Brooklyn Dodgers won by the
slimmest of margins, 2 to 1.

Brooklyn won the game with a run in the 8th inning. After an out was
recorded, Jim Hughes lined a single. One out later, Gilliam took second on a
stolen base. Whitey Lockman then banged out a single scoring the run.
Cleveland threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.

Hughes(2-3) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2 and 2/3 innings. Hoyt
Wilhelm(9-6) was the loser in relief. Mel Gross was clearly disappointed
after the game. 'It was a manager's nightmare out there', he said, 'We
should have had this one.'
