First baseman Gil Hodges slammed 3 homeruns as the Philadelphia-AL Athletics
defeated the Cleveland Indians in 13 innings by a score of 5 to 2 at
Municipal Stadium.
The score was knotted at 2 after nine innings. Philadelphia-AL ended up
winning it in the 13th inning. After an out was recorded, Hodges
jump-started the scoring when he cracked a solo homerun. Al Rosen stepped
into the batter's box and he laced a one-base hit. Wally Moon then banged
out a single. Frank Bolling followed next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt.
Don Johnson then let one get away for a wild pitch scoring another run. Jim
Piersall added his contribution to the rally and lined a single scoring the
final run of the inning. Philadelphia-AL had a total of 11 hits for the
game.
Lew Burdette(10-8) got the win allowing no runs in 3 innings. The losing
pitcher was Johnson(2-3) in relief. Philadelphia-AL knocked him around a
bit, as he gave up 3 runs in 2 innings.
