At Griffith Stadium the Washington Nationals were battered 8 to 3 by the
Pittsburgh Pirates.

Washington was unable to recover after Pittsburgh went ahead in the top of the
2nd inning when they scored 3 runs on 4 hits.  That early run support was
enough for Early Wynn(22-3) and Pittsburgh.  Pittsburgh out-hit Washington
for the game, 15 hits to 5.  

Alex Kellner(1-1) suffered the loss.  By surrending 8 runs in 9 innings his
ERA jumped from 1.17 to 4.32.
