Mike Smith pitched a complete game and Frank Fennelly had 5 hits and 5 RBI at
League Park where the Cincinnati Red Stockings beat the woeful New York
Metropolitans by the score of 12 to 5.

Fennelly enjoyed a great day at the plate.  Every time he came up in the
latter innings, the crowd was on their feet cheering.  He doubled in the 1st
inning, singled resulting in a run in the 3rd inning, doubled bringing in two
baserunners in the 4th inning, hit a single in the 5th inning and doubled
scoring two baserunners in the 7th inning.  Cincinnati had 17 hits for the
afternoon.  

Smith(25-14) was the winner allowing 5 runs for the game. Stump Weidman(0-4)
was charged with the loss.  He was hit hard and gave up 17 hits and 4 walks
in 8 innings.
