Tommy Dowd had 5 hits and 5 RBI and Ted Breitenstein went 9 strong innings as
the St. Louis Browns clobbered the outmatched Baltimore Orioles, 25 to
1.
Dowd was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine day at
their team's expense. He ripped a base-knock scoring a run in the 2nd
inning, doubled which brought home a run in the 3rd inning, banged out a
single in the 7th inning, slapped a one-base hit bringing in two baserunners
in the 8th inning and hit a base-hit plating a run in the 9th inning. St.
Louis bats were hot in the 4th inning which saw them score 7 runs on 6 hits
and the 8th inning with 6 runs on 5 hits. The St. Louis offense poured it
on, scoring in 7 of the 9 innings.
Breitenstein(16-17) got the victory, allowing 1 run for the game. Kirtley
Baker(4-3) was the losing pitcher. He couldn't find the strike zone and
allowed 10 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings.
'Everything seemed to click today,' Dowd said 'if it could only be this easy
all the time!'
