History was made in Brooklyn as Christy Mathewson(23-7) tossed a no-hitter and
the Brooklyn Dodgers defeated the Chicago-NL Cubs by the score of 3 to
0.

Mathewson was cheered on with every out from the 7th inning onward. The
adrenaline had to be just pumping through his veins. The atmosphere was
electric out there in Washington Park this afternoon! He surrendered no walks
and could have tossed a perfect game if it were not for the fielding error.
The tension was mounting with every inning after the 6th. Mathewson appeared
oblivious himself to the mounting history until two were out in the 9th.
Only then, did he allow himself one deep sigh and a slow trip around the
mound. Brooklyn banged out 10 hits on the afternoon.

The losing pitcher was Eddie Plank(6-15). After the game, Mathewson was heard
to say, 'This is something I have dreamt about since I was a little boy - to
have it come true is just amazing!'
