First baseman Dick Hoblitzell had 4 hits and 5 RBI and Dutch Leonard racked up
an impressive total of 15 strikeouts as the Boston Red Sox smashed the
overmatched league door-mat Cleveland Naps, 16 to 0.
Hoblitzell had a big day at the plate. He banged out a single in the 2nd
inning, lined a one-base hit plating a run in the 3rd inning, doubled
clearing the bases in the 6th inning and doubled bringing in a run in the 8th
inning. Boston lit up the scoreboard in the 2nd inning with 6 runs on 6 hits
and the 6th inning which saw them score 4 runs on 3 hits. Boston rapped out
15 hits for the afternoon.
For Leonard(15-6) it was his 5th shutout this year. Rip Hagerman(6-15) was
charged with the loss. He was touched for 12 hits and 3 walks in 5 and 1/3
innings.
Leonard was pleased with his performance. He noted, 'I had good zip on my
pitches. Just as important, my location was right on. The fans really got
into the game too - that always helps me. Now, if I can only do that again
in my next outing.'
