WEB GEMS- Bot 3rd: George Gibson blocked the plate, saving a run!

Sherry Magee had 3 base hits and 2 RBI and Pat Ragan allowed George Stallings
to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game as the Boston Braves bested the
Pittsburgh Pirates 8 to 7 at Braves Field.

Obviously without his best stuff, Ragan(13-8) still hung on to pick up the
win. He gave up 7 runs, 15 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings. Pittsburgh
threatened in the 9th but Boston was able to put down the rally.

Wilbur Cooper(5-11) was hit with the loss. He was knocked around by Boston,
allowing 11 hits and 4 walks in 8 innings. Fred Clarke was subdued when
questioned after the game, 'Sure, this kind of loss takes a while to get
over, but heck, we're all professionals. We've been through this many times
- it's the nature of the game. We'll be fine - as for me - I'll be ready to
go again tomorrow!'
