Eddie Miller hit 2 doubles as the New York Yankees topped the awful
Philadelphia Phillies in 10 innings by a score of 2 to 0 at Shibe Park.
The game was a scoreless tie after nine. Finally, New York pulled the game
out in the 10th inning. After two were out Miller began the rally when he
doubled. Robin Roberts stepped into the batter's box and he stroked a
single, and an error was also committed, knocking in a run. Ed Fitz Gerald
then doubled scoring the final run of the inning. New York had just 4 hits
for the afternoon.
The victory went to Roberts(6-6) who went 9 innings, allowing no runs. Cliff
Chambers gained credit for his 8th save. Curt Simmons(3-13) was given the
loss.
