First baseman Johnny Mize cracked 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI and Hal Newhouser
went the distance as the Washington Nationals defeated the St. Louis
Cardinals 10 to 3 at Sportsman's Park.

Mize had a big day with his bat.  He blasted a solo shot in the 3rd inning and
belted a three-run homer in the 4th inning.  Washington had a total of 15
hits for the game.  

Newhouser(13-13) got the victory, allowing 3 runs for the game. Larry
Jansen(7-16) was tagged with the loss.  He allowed 8 hits and 3 walks in 5
innings.
