Herb Score reeled off a total of 12 strikeouts at Forbes Field as the
Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Kansas City Athletics by the count of 4 to
2.
Score(7-8) looked very much in control throughout the day. He was stingy on
the mound, allowing just 2 hits and 4 walks in 7 innings. Pittsburgh rapped
out 7 hits for the afternoon.
Dick Donovan recorded the save, his 7th. Johnny Antonelli(7-14) was tagged
with the loss. The Pittsburgh fans were thrilled by the performance put
forth by Score, but it was clearly his strikeouts that they enjoyed most.
'When he reached 10 strikeouts the fans showed him their appreciation with a
loud cheer.' Andy Spector said following the game.
