Third baseman Hank Majeski hit 2 doubles and had 2 RBI and Don Newcombe tossed
a complete game as the St. Louis Cardinals were badly beaten by the
Washington Nationals, 12 to 1.

Washington took the lead for good in the 2nd inning with 2 runs utilizing 2
base hits. After an out was recorded, Ray Boone was the sparkplug when he
drew a walk. Majeski followed next and he doubled. Joe Garagiola then would
ground out knocking in a run. Newcombe stepped in and he laced a base-knock
scoring the final run of the inning. That early run support was all that
Newcombe(12-13) required. Washington had 16 hits for the afternoon.

The loss was charged to Vic Raschi(18-8). He got hit hard, allowing 11 hits
and 4 walks in 7 innings.
