Billy Martin had 2 base hits at Griffith Stadium as the Washington Nationals
beat the Chicago-NL Cubs by the count of 5 to 4.

Spec Shea(7-6) pitched a solid game.  He went 8 innings allowing 7 hits and 7
walks.  Chicago-NL threatened in the 9th but Washington was able to put down
the rally.  

Shea was helped out by Joe Nuxhall who recorded his 12th save. Chuck
Stobbs(9-1) was the loser.  He got hit hard, allowing 9 hits and 4 walks in 6
and 1/3 innings.  

'You have to give Chicago-NL credit, they fought us tough to the end' Gordy
Renaud said.  'It could have gone either way, but I'm glad we pulled out the
victory.'
