WEB GEMS- Top 1st: Del Crandall blocked the plate, saving a run!

With the hometown crowd on the edge of their seats, Cincinnati Reds came from
behind to top New York-AL Yankees, 8 to 7.

Cincinnati scored the winning runs in the bottom of the 9th inning when they
came up with 4 runs on 4 hits. The key at-bat was by Ted Kluszewski who made
the home-town crowd a happy bunch when he slapped a one-base hit bringing
home two baserunners. Cincinnati had a total of 14 hits for the game.

Paul Minner(6-10) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 4 innings. Hal
White(1-3) was the losing pitcher in relief. 'That was exciting!,' Hank
Bauer said. 'I would have paid money to watch this one.'
