Jesse Duryea pitched a complete game and Hugh Nicol had 6 hits and 4 RBI at
League Park as the Cincinnati Red Stockings embarrassed the hopeless
Louisville Colonels by the lopsided score of 25 to 2.
Nicol was in a groove all day. He tripled plating a run in the 2nd inning,
slapped a single in the 3rd inning, tripled bringing home two baserunners in
the 4th inning, laced a base-hit in the 6th inning, laced a one-base hit
bringing in a run in the 7th inning and laced a base-hit in the 8th inning.
Cincinnati bats were hot in the 2nd inning with 7 runs on 7 hits and the 4th
inning which saw them plate 6 runs on 4 hits. The Cincinnati offense
man-handled the Louisville pitching staff as they scored in 7 of the 9
innings.
The victory went to Duryea(23-12) who went the distance allowing 2 runs. Guy
Hecker(2-12) was given the loss. He was knocked around by Cincinnati,
allowing 29 hits and 3 walks in 8 innings.
