Caruthers stepped up next and he doubled bringing in a run. Steve Brodie then lined a base-hit bringing in another run. Jack Crooks then called for a steal which was successful. Lew Camp stepped into the box and laced a base-knock scoring the final run of the inning. That early run support was enough for Hawley(4-1) and St. Louis.
