Cleveland was unable to overcome the big offensive rally by Brooklyn in the top of the 9th inning as they erupted for 7 runs on 7 hits. The highlight belonged to Al Rosen who helped quiet the crowd when he ripped a one-base hit scoring two baserunners. Cleveland was out-hit by Brooklyn, 14 hits to 8. Jim Hughes(3-3) allowed 2 runs in 3 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the victory. Hoyt Wilhelm(9-7) ended up with the loss in relief. Mel Gross was understandably not very talkative after his team's tough loss. He quickly showered and changed and when asked about the game had a terse, yet polite response, 'Hey fellows, that game was a heart-breaker to lose. Our guys gave it their all and played well - fate just wasn't smilin' on us this afternoon' SCORESHEET: 1953 Brooklyn Dodgers at 1953 Cleveland Indians J.Gillia-A1 A1:P/6 B1:G-DP/6 C1:W>b1 *7*:W>b1 E1:W>12 b F1:G/3 43>1o 1 W.Lockma-A1 A2:Si B2:FO/5 C2:Si>23 D2:F/9 E2:Si>23 12 12 S.Musial-A1 A3:F/9 *4*:G/63 C3:SF/9>3 D3:Bk>12 E3:F/7 # 23 G/3>23 A.Rosen-A1 A4:F/8 B4:W>b1 C4:Si>3# D4:F/7 E4:PB>3# F.Baker-F2 13 23 12 Si> 3# 2# S.Mele-A1 *2*:F/7 B5:Si>12 C5:SF/8>3 *8*:F/8 E5:Tr>1# V.Wertz-C5 # B.Bruton-F2 S.Lollar-A1 A6:G/53 B6:Force/ C6:F/7 D6:F/8 E6:Si>3# 54>23 1o b1 J.Jensen-A1 A7:W>b1 B7:W>12 b *6*:L/6 D7:HR>b# E7:Si>13 1 R.McMill-A1 A8:F/7 B8:P/3 C8:F/9 D8:G/53 E8:Si>3# D.Wilber-D8 13 R.Bridge-D9 B.Loes-A1 *3*:Si *5*:Do C9:K *9*:Si E9:Force/ A.Brazle-B9 64>3# 1o J.Hughes-C7+ b1 S.Hemus-A1 A1:G/13 B1:K C1:W>b1 D1:G/63 E1:W>b1 J.Busby-A1 A2:F/7 B2:Si C2:P/3 D2:Si>2# E2:G/53>1 2 G.Kell-A1 A3:F/9 B3:F/8 *5*:Do D3:W>12 b E3:Si>2# 1 G.Zernia-A1 *2*:HR>b# *4*:W>b1 C4:IW>b1 D4:G/63 E4:W>12 b D.Phille-C3 1 J.Collin-A1 A5:G/43 B5:Sac/54 C5:Force/ *7*:F/8 E5:P/4 >12 15>2o 12 b1 C.Abrams-A1 A6:E/3 B6:F/8 C6:K D6:K *9*:W>b1 W.Westla-C6 J.Garagi-A1 A7:F/8 B7:Si>23 C7:G/43 D7:E/3 E7:K C.Carras-A1 A8:F/8 B8:HBP>12 *6*:Si D8:Force/ E8:F/9 C.Michae-B9 64>1o b1 H.Wilhel-D9+ A.Kellne-A1 *3*:G/63 B9:Do>3# C9:Sac/14 *8*:P/3 E9:G/3 T.Willia-B9 2# 1# >12 S.Consue-C3+
