Mike Smith went the distance and John Reilly had 3 base hits and 3 RBI as the
Cincinnati Red Stockings topped the Baltimore Orioles by a score of 9 to 7 at
League Park.

Cincinnati took the lead for good in the bottom of the 7th inning when they
came up with 4 runs on 4 hits.  The key offensive moment was provided by
Reilly who thrilled the crowd when he slapped a base-hit scoring two
baserunners.  Baltimore had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.

Smith(26-14) finished the game allowing 7 runs in the victory. Bob
Keating(0-1) was the loser.  He was knocked around by Cincinnati, allowing 14
hits and 5 walks in 8 innings.
