Center fielder Emmet Heidrick had 3 base hits and 2 RBI and Pat Hynes went the
distance as the St. Louis Browns defeated the New York Highlanders by a score
of 7 to 5 at Hilltop Park.

St. Louis had the winning rally in the top of the 8th inning scoring 3 runs on
4 hits.  After an out was recorded, Charles Moran kicked off the action when
he laced a single.  Joe Sugden followed next and he stroked a single.  Hynes
then lashed a single bringing in a run.  Hynes got a great jump and stole
second easily.  Jesse Burkett dug into the batters box next, but he struck
out.  Heidrick extended the rally and singled with two more runners crossing
home.  St. Louis rapped out 13 hits for the afternoon.  

The victory went to Hynes(1-0) who went the distance allowing 5 runs. The loss
was charged to Al Orth(7-10).  He surrendered 7 runs and 13 hits in 9
innings.
