Art Phelan had 2 base hits at Ebbets Field as the Chicago Cubs beat the
Brooklyn Superbas in 12 innings by the count of 7 to 5.

Both teams were tied at 5 runs apiece after nine innings.  Chicago won it in
the 12th inning.  Ward Miller started the inning off right when he drew a
walk.  Phelan stepped up to the plate and he slapped a single.  Vic Saier
then doubled scoring two baserunners.  Brooklyn had 11 hits in the game while
Chicago had 6, but Chicago had the more timely hits.  

The win went to Hippo Vaughn(1-0) who allowed 5 runs in 11 and 2/3 innings.
Eddie Stack got the save, his 3rd.  Ed Reulbach(8-2) took the loss.  He
surrendered 6 hits and 8 walks in 11 innings.
