At National Park the Pittsburgh Pirates outscored the Washington Nationals 9
to 6.

Washington surrendered all of the runs Pittsburgh needed in the 8th inning
when they blasted Washington for 9 runs on 7 hits.  The critical plate
appearance was by Johnny Bates who silenced the stadium when he laced a
base-hit scoring two baserunners.  Overall Pittsburgh out-hit Washington 14
to 10.  

The victory went to Lefty Tyler(17-14) who went 7 innings, allowing 6 runs.
Carl Zamloch preserved the game for Tyler, recording his his 12th save.
Smoky Joe Wood(5-8) took the loss in relief.  He was pinned with the loss
despite not allowing an earned run in his 2 innings of work.
