Billy Pierce(10-7) pitched okay, well enough for the win.  He went 5 innings
allowing 6 hits and 4 walks.  Boston tried unsuccessfully to come back in the
9th.  

Joe Page recorded his 15th save.  Ralph Branca(2-4) absorbed the loss.  He got
hammered, allowing 12 hits and 4 walks in 8 innings.
