In a close game the very strong Cleveland Indians got by the Washington
Nationals by the score of 6 to 4.

The game was won by Cleveland with a run in the top of the 8th inning.  Gil
Hodges smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly'.  Cleveland out-hit Washington for the
game, 13 hits to 7.  

The victory went to Bob Lemon(18-5) who went 7 innings, allowing 3 runs. Jim
Hearn earned his 34th save.  Carl Erskine(4-4) took the loss in relief.
Cleveland knocked him around a bit, as he gave up 3 runs in 2 and 2/3
innings.
