9,398 fans were treated to a fine game at Ebbets Field as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end.  The Brooklyn Dodgers won by the
slimmest of margins, 5 to 4.

Bobby Shantz(5-3) pitched a fine game.  He went 6 and 2/3 innings surrendering
7 hits and 2 walks.  Washington had 10 hits in the game while Brooklyn had 7,
but Brooklyn had the more timely hits.  

Shantz was helped out by Al Brazle who recorded his 3rd save.  Warren
Spahn(10-7) ended up with the loss.  'I didn't have my best stuff but
sometimes you just get lucky,' Shantz said, 'this was one of those times.'
