Chicago-NL Cubs broke the deadlock in their last at bats, pulling out a 8 to
7 win over the Cleveland Indians and sending their hometown fans home
smiling.
Chicago-NL scored the deciding run in the bottom of the 9th inning. Cal
Abrams ripped a base-hit. Stan Lopata followed, but he was set down on
strikes. Phil Rizzuto then doubled. Vic Wertz followed and he banged out a
single resulting in an exciting win for Chicago-NL and a raucous post-game
celebration by the home town fans. Chicago-NL had 11 hits for the night.
Leo Kiely(2-0) got the win allowing no runs in 1 inning. Don Mossi(2-3) was
the losing pitcher in relief. He pitched 1 and 1/3 innings allowing 4 hits
and no walks.
