Right fielder Gene Woodling smashed 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI and Johnny
Schmitz slammed the door on Pittsburgh as the New York-AL Yankees defeated
the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 13 to 12 at Yankee Stadium.

Woodling had a great evening at the plate.  He had the crowd cheering his
every move.  He clubbed a solo home run in the 1st inning, doubled scoring a
run in the 4th inning, lifted one out of the park for a two run home run in
the 5th inning and delivered a one-base hit which scored a run in the 8th
inning.  The game was a wild affair with the lead changing hands 7 times.

Jack Meyer(7-7) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 1 inning. Schmitz
preserved the game for Meyer, recording his his 2nd save.  The losing pitcher
was Jack Harshman(8-9) in relief.
