WEB GEMS- Top 6th: Bid McPhee robbed Pete Meegan of a base hit.

George Pechiney tossed a complete game as the Cincinnati Red Stockings bested
the Pittsburgh Alleghenys 5 to 1 at League Park.

Cincinnati brought 3 runs across the plate in the 2nd inning when they had 3
base hits. Bid McPhee led off and got things going when he drew a walk.
McPhee got a good lead and stole second. Pop Corkhill then tripled knocking
in a run. Jim Clinton stepped in and he ripped a one-base hit, and an error
was also committed, plating another run. Kid Baldwin came up to bat and
ripped a base-knock, and an error was also committed, scoring the final run
of the inning. That early run support was enough for Pechiney(3-2) and
Cincinnati. Cincinnati rapped out 9 hits for the afternoon.

Pete Meegan(5-5) was the loser. He pitched 8 innings allowing 9 hits and 2
walks.
