WEB GEMS- Top 4th: Joe Yeager robbed Doc Scanlan of a base hit.

In a wild and wooly game at Columbia Park, the Philadelphia-AL Athletics
finally topped the Chicago-NL Cubs by the score of 14 to 11 in.

Chicago-NL found themselves trailing quickly as the Philadelphia-AL bats came
through in the first inning as they scored 4 runs on 4 base hits. The key
offensive moment was provided by Jake Beckley who elicited a roar from the
hometown fans when he laced a base-knock plating two runs. Chicago-NL made
it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.

The win was credited to Cy Young(15-14) who went 7 innings allowing 7 runs.
Doc Scanlan(10-11) was hit with the loss. Philadelphia-AL scored big getting
7 runs off him in 5 innings.

'It's a disheartening loss, no question about it' said Lee Palmer 'But we have
to get over it and get ready for the next game.'
