Jeff Tesreau(18-11) was on top of his game in New York as he tossed a beauty
of a no-hitter against the Chicago Cubs. The New York Giants won by a score
of 4 to 0.
Tesreau provided a brilliant, unforgettable performance for the hometown crowd
at Polo Grounds day. He only walked one Chicago batter. What a day for the
fans. They were on the edge of their seats from the 7th inning on. With
every out, the electricity in the air mounted. New York finished with 10
hits in the victory.
Bert Humphries(4-12) was charged with the loss. He allowed 4 runs and 10 hits
in 8 innings. Tesreau was in a jubilant mood after the game. 'If I'd known
I was going to throw a no hitter I would have gotten a haircut!' he said,
much to the delight of the clubhouse gathering.
