Al Dark cleared the bases with his grand slam at Yankee Stadium where the
Pittsburgh Pirates beat the New York-AL Yankees 10 to 7.
Dark provided the offensive punch. He depressed the partisan hometown fans
with a grand slam home run in the 2nd inning and ripped a single in the 4th
inning. Pittsburgh and New York-AL each finished the afternoon with 13 hits.
The winning pitcher was Billy Pierce(12-4) who allowed 4 runs in 6 innings.
Pierce got help from Dick Donovan who was credited with his 6th save. Tommy
Byrne(2-8) was charged with the loss. He was unable to control the
Pittsburgh offense and allowed 10 hits and 5 walks in 7 innings.
