Richie Ashburn lofted one into the 'cheap seats' at Yankee Stadium as the
Pittsburgh Pirates lost a heartbreaker to New York-AL Yankees by the score of
5 to 4.

The game was decided in the bottom of the 9th inning.  After an out was
recorded, Ashburn blasted a solo shot giving New York-AL the victory and
sending the 63,762 home-town fans home happy.  Both teams totaled 7 hits on
the afternoon.  

The win went to Mel Parnell(11-4) who allowed no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings.
Vern Law(2-2) absorbed the loss in relief.  It was another victory for New
York-AL at Yankee Stadium.  Now their winning streak stands at 6 games.
