TEAM RISP- Athletics: 0 for 20 Red Stockings: 6 for 19

Ross Barnes had 5 hits and 4 RBI and Al Spalding had a complete game at South
End Grounds as the Boston Red Stockings beat the Philadelphia A Athletics by
the count of 16 to 11.

It was a good day for Boston thanks to Barnes. He ripped a base-knock in the
1st inning, doubled in the 4th inning, stroked a base-hit knocking in a run
in the 6th inning, delivered a single bringing in a run in the 7th inning and
doubled plating two runs in the 8th inning. Boston lit up the scoreboard in
the 1st inning which saw them plate 6 runs on 5 hits and the 7th inning which
saw them score 6 runs on 4 hits. Philadelphia A was not lacking for run
support as they scored in 6 separate innings, yet victory eluded them as they
seemed to forget that pitching is also needed to win ballgames.

Spalding(20-7) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 11 runs. Dick
McBride(18-13) was hit with the loss. He was knocked around by Boston,
allowing 18 hits and 3 walks in 8 innings.
