First baseman Ed Swartwood had 4 hits and 3 RBI as the Pittsburgh Alleghenys
beat the Columbus Buckeyes by a score of 23 to 16.

Swartwood made sure the Pittsburgh fans enjoyed themselves.  He doubled in the
1st inning, doubled resulting in a run in the 1st inning, ripped a base-knock
in the 3rd inning and doubled which scored a run in the 4th inning.
Pittsburgh lit up the scoreboard in the 1st inning when they had 8 runs on 6
hits, the 4th inning which saw them score 4 runs on 5 hits and the 8th inning
which saw them plate 4 runs on 3 hits.  The Pittsburgh offense poured it on,
scoring in 7 of the 9 innings.  

The winning pitcher was Denny Driscoll(18-19) who allowed 16 runs in 8 and 2/3
innings. Pete Fries(0-3) was charged with the loss.  He got hammered,
allowing 22 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings.
