Addie Joss threw a 4 hit shutout as the sizzling St. Louis-AL Browns beat the
Cincinnati Reds in 11 innings by a score of 1 to 0.
The run-column was full of goose eggs at the end of nine full innings. St.
Louis-AL won the game in the 11th inning. Bill Sweeney drew a walk. Sweeney
got a good lead and stole second. Harry Steinfeldt then laid down a
sacrifice bunt. Sherry Magee stepped in and he drew a walk. Ollie Pickering
came up to bat and hit a sacrifice fly making St. Louis-AL the victors to the
delight of the home town faithful. St. Louis-AL managed only 6 hits on the
afternoon.
For Joss(17-7) it was his 8th shutout this year. Christy Mathewson(13-15) was
the losing pitcher. He pitched 10 and 2/3 innings allowing 6 hits and 5
walks.
'He was moving it around and spotting it very well.' Doug Hatch said. Joss
pitched a great game. He deserves all the credit.'
