Mickey Vernon collected 4 RBI with one swing of the bat as the Pittsburgh
Pirates defeated the Cincinnati Reds 6 to 4 at Crosley Field.

Pittsburgh came up with all the runs they needed in the 8th inning when they
came up with 6 runs on 6 hits. The key offensive moment was provided by
Vernon who helped quiet the crowd when he emptied the bases with a Grand Slam
homerun. Neither team was able to score until the 8th inning.

Early Wynn(6-15) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 innings and allowing
no runs. Wynn got help from Dutch Leonard who was credited with his 5th save.
Dave Koslo(2-3) absorbed the loss in relief. He was not very effective,
surrendering 6 runs in 2 innings.

'It wasn't my best outing, but I'll take the win' Wynn said.
