Carl Erskine stopped Brooklyn cold as the Washington Nationals defeated the
Brooklyn Dodgers by a score of 11 to 7 at Ebbets Field.

Gus Bell had a big day at the plate.  He delivered a single in the 3rd inning,
cleared the bases with a Grand Slam homerun in the 4th inning and laced a
one-base hit bringing in a run in the 7th inning.  Washington had a total of
13 hits for the game.  

Johnny Podres(5-7) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 and 2/3 innings and
allowing 7 runs. Erskine was credited with his 1st save.  Sam Jones(10-11)
was the loser.  He surrended 3 homeruns in his 3 and 2/3 innings.
