First baseman John Anderson had 2 base hits and Tully Sparks went 9 strong
innings as the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Philadelphia Athletics by the
score of 4 to 2 at Lloyd Street Grounds.

Milwaukee scored the winning runs in the 8th inning plating 3 runs on 3 base
hits. Anderson got things going when he hit a single. Billy Gilbert next to
the plate and he slapped a base-hit, and an error was also committed. Bill
Hallman then hit a deep fly resulting in a run. Bill Friel was up next and
he stroked a one-base hit scoring one more run. Ed Bruyette stepped into the
box and drew a walk. Chick Fraser then unleashed a wild pitch. Jiggs
Donahue came next and he hit a deep fly scoring the final run of the inning.
Philadelphia could do no damage in the 9th.

Sparks(7-14) finished the game allowing 2 runs in the victory. Fraser(15-15)
was hit with the loss. 'After the stretch we have been through lately, this
victory is especially sweet' offered Hugh Duffy. Now, we just have to make
this the norm - not the exception!'
