of margins, 3 to 2.

In the bottom of the 5th inning Chicago scored 2 runs. The big moment was
provided by Ward Miller who made the home-town crowd a happy bunch when he
hit a single scoring two baserunners. Pittsburgh threatened in the 9th but
their rally came up short.

The winning pitcher was Bert Humphries(10-8) who allowed 2 runs in 8 and 2/3
innings. Lefty Leifield was credited with his 1st save. Marty O'Toole(7-5)
ended up with the loss. He allowed 7 hits and 5 walks in 8 innings.

'This was a tough loss,' said Fred Clarke, 'the kind that sticks with you for
awhile.'
