TEAM RISP- Nationals: 3 for 8 Highlanders: 1 for 12

George McBride collected 2 extra-base hits and Bob Groom reeled off a total of
10 strikeouts as the Washington Nationals defeated the New York Highlanders
by a score of 3 to 2 at Hilltop Park.

Groom(11-10) had a strong outing. He didn't allow much, just 7 hits and 6
walks in 9 innings. The pitchers took over after the 4th inning as neither
team was able to score again.

Ray Caldwell(8-12) ended up with the loss. Groom didn't realize how many
strikeouts he was racking up. When told he had 10 he was obviously
surprised, 'No kidding? Man, I knew that I had a decent total, but I didn't
think I had K'd that many. Say, that's pretty good, isn't it?'
