Rube Marquard went the distance as the New York Giants came back to win one
over Boston Braves, 3 to 2.
New York came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs
utilizing 3 base hits. Tillie Shafer led off and he slapped a base-hit. Art
Fletcher was next and he lined a single. Two outs later Red Murray came to
bat and slapped a one-base hit giving New York the win as 31,924 happy fans
joyfully celebrated. The teams had been locked in a scoreless duel until the
6th inning.
The victory was credited to Marquard(13-14) who went the distance, allowing 2
runs. Dick Rudolph(10-8) was the loser. He pitched 8 and 2/3 innings giving
up 9 hits and no walks.
'That was exciting!,' George Burns said. 'I would have paid money to watch
this one.'
