Max Lanier tossed a fine 3 hitter and left fielder Hank Sauer touched them all
as the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the St. Louis Cardinals by a score of 5 to
2 at Forbes Field.

Pittsburgh brought 2 runs across the plate in the bottom of the 7th inning
when they had 3 base hits.  They ended up being the winning runs.  Pittsburgh
took care of St. Louis with no trouble in the 9th.  

The win was credited to Lanier(1-3) who went the whole way allowing 2 runs.
Russ Meyer(10-10) ended up with the loss.  He gave up 4 runs and 9 hits in 7
innings.
