Gus Zernial blasted a homerun and had 6 RBI and Mel Parnell tossed a complete
game as the New York-AL Yankees defeated the Washington Nationals by a score
of 11 to 2 at Griffith Stadium.

Zernial had a great evening at the plate. He rifled a three-run blast in the
5th inning, tripled bringing home two baserunners in the 6th inning and
tripled knocking in a run in the 8th inning. New York-AL totaled 19 hits on
the night.

Parnell(11-7) finished the game allowing 2 runs in the victory. Ken
Raffensberger(8-14) was the losing pitcher. He was knocked around,
surrendering 6 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings.

'I was in my hotel room the other night, working on my swing and made some
adjustments,' Zernial said. 'I'm always working on it. If they are getting
you out certain ways, you've got to make changes.'
